October 17th - 21st

Well, my faithful readers and dear friends, I am sorry that I have not been good with my postings. If I were to be honest, I would tell you that I did not have a good midterms week. It started off with a not very good Monday and just kept going from there. I was homesick for most of the week and I just wanted Saturday to get here so FREAKING badly. As this is almost two weeks late, I will just give you all some of the highlights from that week.

On Wednesday, I had lunch with the gentleman that I met in the Piazza the previous week. It was a very nice lunch and we spent a few hours talking. His name is Giuseppe and he lives alone. He is in his 70's I would say and he has never been married, as he says, he is "still waiting for his princess". How precious is that? I think that is so sweet. He is an entrepreneur and a jack of all trades. His current program is called OLPC and it is a company who is trying to get One Laptop Per Child throughout third world countries to get better education for children who do not have it. The laptops are pretty indestructible from the sounds of it and extremely child friendly. The laptops will have internet and programs that will help the children to learn. I think it is an amazing sounding idea.

On Thursday night, I went out with Courtney and a few of her friends to a bar around the corner from our apartment that we hadn't been to yet and it was a lot of fun. It is always nice going to different places once in a while to mix things up.

Oh I am not sure if I mentioned it yet, but I bought tickets to Barcelona with Courtney and a few other girls for the weekend of December 2nd and we booked an apartment for the weekend because it actually ended up being cheaper than doing hostels. In conclusion, it looks like a palace and I am excited! I will hit three countries while I am here and I think that it is going to be super exciting! I am thinking about going to a fourth one but the details are still yet to be planned.

Again, I am sorry that I did not do well with my posts for the week but I was just not in a good mood and I didn't want to whine the entire time. Obviously, I will be better about my posts. I am also writing posts for each day while Chris visited and they will be up shortly after he is done proof reading them.

Con amore, Ciao!

  1. I have heard of the OLPC before. What I remember is that they are designed to be manually charged up. So if you imagine a jack-in-a-box and how you have to wind it up before it springs, that is essentially how the kids would charge their laptops so that they dont need electricity. I think they are even developing solar powered ones.
